Master of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at Ghent University
Since last academic year, a Master of Biochemistry and Biotechnology is offered at Ghent University. This training is open to students with a Bachelor or Masters degree. Our department contributes largely to the curriculum and major in Plant Biotechnology. All courses will be taught in English. This training is an excellent preparation for a PhD in plant biotechnology and an exquisite steppingstone to a promising career in agro-industry.

Manager Position for a European Integrated Project
AGRON-OMICS (Arabidopsis Growth Network Integrating -OMICS technologies) is an Integrated Project funded by the European Commission within the Framework Program 6 involving the top European plant research institutes (www.agron-omics.eu). The AGRON-OMICS research program focuses on the integration of a wide range of molecular profiling and phenotyping technologies to unravel leaf and plant growth gene regulatory networks.
Tomato Core Collection Workshop July 26-31, 2009
The coming season is all about seeing what we “fished” out of the core collection screens and establishing diversity panels for traits that are important for tomato agriculture. The involvement of other EU-SOL labs in phenotyping the panels forms a strong basis for further discovery and innovation.

Solanum pimpinellifolium genome sequence
The whole genome shotgun assembly for the close wild relative of tomato, Solanum pimpinellifolium, has been pre-released on SGN by the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory scientists Doreen Ware, Richard McCombie and Zach Lippman. The dataset can be downloaded and used for BLAST. Please read the accompanying Data Agreement carefully.
Tomato genome release: Assembly version 1.5
The International Tomato Genome Consortium has released a new assembly, version 1.50. This version includes polishing with Solexa and SOLID sequences, and improved scaffolds based on BAC end linkage data. Please refer to the Data Agreement.
