iTAG Gene Identifier

Here an example on how iTAG idetifiers are defined: SL1.00sc00001_1.1.1

  • This would identify a gene model of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum, two-letter code 'SL') in assembly release 1.00.
  • The location on a specific sequence of that assembly release is indicated by a scaffold abbreviation such as 'sc00001'.
  • An underscore (_) separates the scaffold id from the gene locus number which should be assigned by the gene location on the scaffold/contig in ascending order.
  • The next number, separated by '.' indicates the gene model/annotation version whereas the number in the last place (separated by a '.' again) describes the splice variant (e.g. '.2', '.3', etc in case of alternative spliced gene models).
