About Us
Rijk Zwaan is a prominent, independent and family owned Dutch company, founded in 1924, specializing in the breeding, production and selling of vegetable seeds. Rijk Zwaan has a worldwide market. The seed breeding activities are conducted globally, in order to be able to meet the demands of growers in the different climatic zones. Rijk Zwaan produces an extremely innovative and wide range of vegetable seeds for substrate crops and outdoor crops grown for the fresh market, the processing industry and the organic market. Main products are tomatoes, cucumbers, pepper, many lettuce types, endive, carrots, spinach, leeks and brassicas. About 25% of the turnover is re-invested in research. Rijk Zwaan is market leader in lettuce, spinach and cucumber. At Rijk Zwaan, a number of advanced techniques and a state of the art robotized high throughput molecular marker assisted breeding laboratory is used in the development of modern vegetable varieties.
Rijk Zwaan and Eu-Sol
Within the EU-SOL project, Rijk Zwaan will play a role in the translation of the results of the research towards the worldwide market. To enable this, Rijk Zwaan plays a role in the industry board that has been set up in the framework of EU-SOL.
