About Us

LIS (Life sciences, Innovation & Society) Consult wants to contribute to a constructive dialogue on responsible innovation in Life Sciences between relevant stakeholders. This contribution is made by balanced analysis of technological developments, societal impacts and policy options for innovation strategies and stakeholder involvement.

Huib de Vriend has conducted several studies on technological and regulatory developments, the socio-economic impacts and public attitudes and public perceptions of biotechnology and genomics and has been involved in several initiatives aiming at debate and constructive dialogue between scientists, public authorities, industry representatives and NGOs.

LIS consult and Eu-Sol

LIS Consult is responsible for the interactive consumer approach in the EU-SOL programme and communication with several target groups. The interactive approach consists of several steps, meant to involve relevant stakeholders or groups in society, with a special focus on the end-users, i.e. consumers.

In the past decade, we have learned that these stakeholders and groups can set the stage for consumer acceptance or rejection of the application of new technologies in food production. Thorough understanding of perceptions and appreciations is crucial in effective communication about those new technologies and their applications. Therefore, it is equally important to inform these groups about the goals and methods of EU-SOL and to get a clear impression of their appreciation of the project and perceptions of the development and application of knowledge about traits at the molecular level in the breeding of new tomato and potato varieties.

This is all part op Workpackage 8.2 of the project, which exists of a combination of newsletters, surveys, interviews, discussions and information sheets
