About Us
Hebron University located in Hebron city (40 km south of Jerusalem). The Arabic name for Hebron city is Alkhalil, named after Khalil Al-Rahman (literally meaning "friend of the Merciful [Allah]") [the Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH)] who came to this city in 2000 BC.
Hebron (Al-Khalil) University was established in 1971 pioneering higher education in Palestine and the full-scale Palestinian university in the far south of the country. In 1971, the University started as a small college of Shari' a (Islamic Law) serving a total of 43 students. The University now offers more than 45 academic program at the bachelor and master degree with a total number of 6000 students.
The primary aims of the University are:
- To provide students with high quality education
- To advance knowledge and to solve local community problems through scientific research
- To contribute to the development and improvement of the cultural, social and economic status of the Palestinian society. Especially in the southern part
Hebron University and Eu-Sol
We are involved in WP.4.1 title of; Development of mapped genetic resources. Our role is focused on S. pennellii ILs and sub-ILs population. Through the work we use a PCR based markers (COSII markers) to map the 76 S. pennellii ILs. In addition, to help in producing sub-lines by verifying the breakpoints of new sub-lines for higher resolution map.
