Full name: INRA, UR 1268, Biopolymer Interaction Assembly

Location: Nantes, France

About Us

INRA-BIA is a laboratory unit of the INRA organization developing basic researches on biopolymers in the food and non-food sciences areas. Biopolymers concerned are starch, reserve proteins and cell wall polysaccharides from large crops and particularly from cereal grains (wheat) and fleshy fruits (tomato). Main studies deal with the mechanisms of biosynthesis and polymer assembly in plant organs, on polymer physicochemistry and mechanical properties in complexes matrices, and on allergy in processed biopolymer matrices.

INRA-BIA and Eu-Sol

INRA-BIA contributes to the EU-SOL program through its expertise on cell wall structure in relation with fleshy fruit texture. It participates to unravel the molecular mechanisms of tomato texture related to post-harvest quality (WP1.4). It is particularly responsible for the characterisation of cell walls in genetically defined lines of tomatoes that are contrasted in texture.
