About Us

De Ruiter Seeds is one of the world’s leading vegetable seed breeding companies. The Netherlands-based company had global sales of approximately €108 million in 2007. The company has a strong focus on crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, peppers, eggplants and rootstock (used for tomato culture purposes); and breeds novel varieties for the protected-culture segment, commonly known as greenhouse or plastic house agriculture.

We strongly believe that full integration of conventional breeding and modern research technologies and results will bring better products sooner to the market place. The major R&D stations of De Ruiter Seeds are located in the heart of major markets in The Netherlands, France, Israel and Spain to optimally serve the needs of our customers, worldwide. Product innovation by highly dedicated employees is the driver of our success.

De Ruiter Seeds and Eu-Sol

De Ruiter Seeds work in EU-SOL is to assess whether leads and results from the research activities by universities and institutes contribute to products with improved features such as health, taste and fruit quality as well as new resistances to pathogens and pests to promote sustainable growing practices. To further support this, De Ruiter Seeds has made available to the scientific community a significant part of its genetic resources of tomato.
